How a Round Works

Understanding the rules of Blackjack makes the game much easier to follow. Each round begins with the player placing a bet. The dealer then deals the player two face-up cards and keeps one face-up and one face-down card for themselves.

Each card scores points equal to its number — cards 2 through 10 are worth their face value, Jack / Queen / King are each worth 10 points, and an Ace can be counted as either 1 or 11. The goal is to score more points than the dealer without going over 21 — going over is called a bust and the bet is lost immediately.

On the player's turn, three main decisions are available: Hit (take another card), Stand (take no more cards), or Double Down (double your bet and take exactly one more card). Some tables also offer the option to Split or Surrender.

Once all players have finished their turns, the dealer reveals their face-down card. The dealer must generally hit on 16 or less and stand on 17 or more. Whoever has the higher point total without going over 21 wins.

Main Bet Types and Payouts

In Blackjack there are several side bets and special payout opportunities beyond the main bet. Below is a summary of the most common bets and their payouts:

Bet Type Situation Payout
Main Bet (Win) Player's points are higher than the dealer's without going over 21 1:1 — profit equal to the bet
Blackjack Ace + 10-value card on the first two cards 3:2 — ৳150 profit on a ৳100 bet
Push (Tie) Player and dealer have the same points Bet returned, no profit or loss
Insurance Available when the dealer's face-up card is an Ace 2:1 — wins if the dealer has Blackjack, insurance bet is lost if they do not
Double Down Double the bet after receiving the first two cards 1:1 like the main bet, but the total bet is doubled
Split Play two separate hands when dealt two cards of the same value Each hand is settled separately at 1:1

* The insurance bet does not favour the player over the long run — most experienced players avoid it.

House Edge — How the Advantage Works

Among casino games, Blackjack has one of the lowest house edges. By following correct basic strategy the house edge can come down to around 0.5% — meaning on average only ৳5 per ৳1,000 bet goes in the casino's favour.

By comparison, many slot games can have a house edge of 2%–5%. In Blackjack the edge is lower primarily because the player's decisions (hit, stand, double down) influence the outcome.

The house edge is a mathematical average — it does not guarantee the result of any individual session. Taking the insurance bet, missing a double down opportunity, or standing at the wrong time can increase the house edge. Knowing the strategy makes it easier to keep that difference in your favour.

Basic Strategy for Beginners

Basic strategy is a mathematically proven set of decisions — when to hit, when to stand, when to double down in each situation. Even if you cannot memorise it all, understanding the key principles helps a great deal.

  • 01 Always stand when your hand is 17 or more — taking another card increases the chance of busting.
  • 02 When the dealer's face-up card is 2–6 (a weak hand), you can stand on 12–16 — the dealer has a chance of busting on their own.
  • 03 When your first two cards total 11, it is almost always worth doubling down — the chance of drawing a 10-value card is highest.
  • 04 Split when you have two Aces or two 8s — splitting Aces gives you two strong starting hands, and keeping two 8s together makes 16, which is a very weak hand.
  • 05 Never split two 10-value cards (20 points) — 20 is already a very strong hand.
  • 06 Avoid the insurance bet — over the long run it works in the casino's favour.

29bet Blackjack table limits and betting options

Table Limits — How Much You Can Bet at Each Table

Table limits in Blackjack define the minimum and maximum bet allowed per hand. 29bet offers tables at multiple levels to suit players with different budgets.

Low-budget tables: These tables let you start with small bets, giving new players the chance to practice strategy with lower risk. They are ideal for those just starting to learn basic strategy.

Mid-range tables: For experienced players who want to place slightly larger bets per hand. This range is the most popular in the live dealer version.

VIP and high-stakes tables: High-limit tables are available for those comfortable playing larger amounts. Members of the 29bet VIP programme may gain access to exclusive high-limit tables through their 29bet VIP benefits.

Specific table limits are shown on each game card in the lobby, so you can check the limits before you sit down.

Common Questions about Blackjack

An Ace can be worth either 1 or 11 — whichever is more favourable for the player, and this is calculated automatically. Example: Ace + 7 = 18 (the Ace counts as 11 here), but if you take another card that would cause a bust, the Ace counts as 1 instead, making the total 8.

Doubling down is generally profitable when your hand totals 10 or 11 and the dealer's face-up card is weak (2–9). In this situation the chance of drawing a 10-value card is higher, giving you a strong hand. However, if your hand is 12 or more, doubling down carries more risk.

Most live Blackjack tables typically seat 5–7 players at once. Even when all seats are taken, many tables offer a "Bet Behind" feature, which lets you place a bet on a seated player's hand without occupying a seat yourself.

In online digital Blackjack the card deck is generally reshuffled after every hand, making card counting practically ineffective. Live dealer tables do run several hands between shuffles, but low deck penetration and the use of shuffle machines mean counting is not advantageous there either.

When following basic strategy, Blackjack's house edge is generally around 0.5%, which is among the lowest of all casino games. By comparison, Baccarat is around 1.06% and European Roulette around 2.7%. This depends on which rule variant you are playing and how consistently you make the right decisions.

Under most rules, a Blackjack (Ace + 10-value card) made after a split is not counted as a natural Blackjack — it is usually treated as a 21-point hand and pays 1:1. Check the pay table or rules before you start the game to confirm the specific rules of that table.
